Our business is rooted in South Africa, as well as the African continent, the “melting pot” of cultures from around the world. Inspired by our lifelong love for Asia, and the wonderful way these cultures’ philosophies of art, the nature of artifacts as well as the interpretation, representation, expression and form fuse together, we decided to establish African Pagoda. We want to share the amazing way these elements fit together in any setting.

We chose the pagoda, which had its origins in India, South Asia, as it is a multi-tiered tower or building which often houses sacred objects or important items. This represents our vision of African Pagoda interiors. Our business is multi-faceted in the sense that it encompasses different decorative and practical objects, which in a sense becomes sacred to our surroundings and our well-being.

The idea behind our logo for African Pagoda, with the encircled lotus flower and wavey lines, is that the circle represents the circular shape of indigenous houses of Southern Africa. The lotus is a symbol of beauty found throughout Asia, and combined together represent a beautiful home or space that we may occupy. The wavey lines pay homage to the age old cancellation stamp, used to cancel postage stamps on parcels sent locally and abroad, creating a nostalgic feeling for times when the only form of communication was by way of a letter or parcel, which was eagerly awaited and received from all corners of the globe, often bringing news of travels or treasures from distant lands.

We source African and Asian artifacts, typically of cultural or historical interest as well as fabrics, sculptures, architectural pieces, paintings and more, which compliment any interior.  We bring interesting items from Asia and Africa, and occasionally from around the world, together under one roof and combine it in a way that is pleasurable to the eye.
